About RuneScape 4
RuneScape 4, known by the working title RS4, is a new RuneScape MMORPG from Jagex, revealed at RuneFest 2026. It is built in Unreal Engine and takes the series into Gielinor's Sixth Age, starting in Ashenfall, the land first explored in the survival spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds, before expanding into other regions over time.
The project began life as a Dragonwilds expansion called Shadows of Ashenfall, but playtesters kept asking for a more traditional MMO set in that world, so Jagex turned it into a standalone game. RS4 will not replace RuneScape or Old School RuneScape. It gets its own team and roadmap and runs alongside them, with community involvement, integrity and permanent progression as its core principles. Jagex says it is in early development and still a few years away, and platforms have not been announced.
