The novel tells the story of when Chinese Empire was divided into three warring kingdoms called the shu, wei, and wu. This decisive period in Chinese history not only is the continuing interest to historians, poets, and dramatists. To this day the morals and lessons learned throughout it prose is preached in schools all through Asia.

Although the game is based on this period, Three Kingdoms: The Battle Begins allows you, the player, to not only see and speak to your favorite characters from teh novel, but rewrite history by killing the well-known protagonists of the famous story.
